  • A New Leaf: Cannabis Legalization in Minnesota. Minnesota State Law Library was the host. November 2023. Presented together on the criminal, expungement, and business law aspects relating to the recent change in Minnesota law legalizing cannabis.
  • "Navigating Minnesota's New Cannabis Laws" Twin Cities Startup Week, September 2023. Mr. Gempeler presented with his partner, Ms. Jen Reise, on the new law that legalized cannabis. We were two of the three presenters that gave a thorough overview of the new laws from the licensing, criminal, expungement, and employee perspectives.
  • "A New Leaf: Cannabis Legalization in MN" Hennepin County Law Library, August 2023. Mr. Gempeler presented with another partner at North Star Law Group to discuss the new law that legalized cannabis. The two discussed what the law legalized, what remains criminal conduct, and the licensing and regulations associated with the new law.
  • "The Law Firm Is Also a Business – Business Practices and Ideas to Make You More Successful" Solo & Small Firm Conference through Minnesota CLE, August 2023. Mr. Gempeler was joined by two other attorneys on a panel, moderated by the current president of the State bar association, discussing best business practices.
  • "Guerilla Marketing: 8 Unique Tips to Improve Your Networking and Marketing" Solo & Small Firm Conference through Minnesota CLE, August 2023. Mr. Gempeler joined with another presenter on these important networking and marketing tactics for success as solo/small firm attorneys. Clearly, Mr. Gempeler is well-respected in the legal community beyond just his legal expertise.
  • "Five Marketing Lessons Learned in Growing a Profitable Small Law Firm" Solo and Small Firm Summit through the Minnesota State Bar Association, May 2023. Mr. Gempeler was a lead presenter on these marketing and networking tips for fellow solo/small firm colleagues.
  • "Marketing and Networking Primer" Richard T. Oaks Inn of Courts, April 2022. Mr. Gempeler led a presentation on marketing and networking for solo/small firm attorneys at a prestigious Inn of Courts.
  • "The Interplay of Civil and Criminal Tax Investigations" Minnesota CLE, 2021 Tax Institute Seminar, December 2021. Mr. Gempeler joined two other presenters, including a former IRS special agent, to discuss how federal and state tax investigations evolve from civil to criminal and what roles practitioners can take to best protect their clients.
  • "Attorney Safety" MSBA Solo/Small-Firm Section CLE on steps to take in assessing and improving safety precautions for attorneys, staff, and clients. Mr. Gempeler joined a family law attorney in sharing their experiences with workplace violence and what steps they've taken to improve and mitigate risks going forward.
  • "DWI - What In the World Do You Tell People About Warrants and Testing?" MSBA Solo/Small-Firm Section Annual Meeting, May 2017. Mr. Gempeler joined a quartet of presenters in various practice areas to discuss recent developments in the Minnesota DWI laws.
  • "Solo 201 - The Next Steps in Growing and Maintaining a Successful Practice," MSBA Solo/Small-Firm Section, March 2017. Mr. Gempeler was the MC and organizer of this CLE designed to offer helpful tips and information on the business side of the law to seasoned attorneys.
  • "Support in Trying Times: What Solo and Small Firm Lawyers Can Do For Ourselves, Our Clients, Each Other, and Our Community." MSBA Solo/Small-Firm Section, May 2016. Mr. Gempeler was a lead presenter to a group of solo/small-firm attorneys regarding how North Star handled its recent crisis.
  • "Marketing and Networking Primer" Halunen Law, April 2016. Mr. Gempeler led a presentation on marketing and networking for associates and partners at a well-established and well-respected firm in an effort for that firm to better build and expand its brand.
  • "Everything But the Trial School" CLE, MSBA Criminal Law Section, March 2016. Mr. Gempeler was a lead speaker, along with an Assistant County Attorney and fellow expungement attorney, about the new expungement law and developments in its implementation over the past year. Attendees included State prosecutors and defense attorneys alike.
  • "Solo 101: The Whirlwind Tour" Solo/Small Firm Section of the State Bar Association, November 2015. Mr. Gempeler was the lead MC for the three-hour CLE and a moderator for the networking and marketing hour of the CLE, where he was both a moderator and panel member speaking about the do's and don'ts of networking and marketing to solo/small firm attorneys.

  • “Criminal Expungements” Military & Veterans Affairs Annual Meeting and CLE, May 2015. Mr. Gempeler was a lead speaker, detailing the new expungement law and its implications for veterans and service members.
  • “Expungement Law Update” Suburban Hennepin County Prosecutors Association CLE, May 2015. Mr. Gempeler was a lead speaker with the lead Hennepin County Attorney that handles expungements. Together, they provided an overview of the new law and even practice pointers applicable to both sides of the aisle.
