Jessica Erspamer
Jessica Erspamer is an associate attorney at North Star, representing clients in criminal defense and family law matters, where legal issues are often deeply intertwined with a client's family, livelihood, reputation, and future. Licensed to practice law in Minnesota, Wisconsin, Florida, and Massachusetts, Jessica brings sharp legal analysis, practical problem-solving, and a genuine ability to connect with people.
Jessica grew up in small-town Wisconsin, in a family where advocacy was part of everyday life. Raised in a family of lawyers and alongside a brother with cerebral palsy, she learned early that people cannot be understood by a label or a single set of circumstances. She also saw firsthand the importance of having someone who listens, understands the bigger picture, and advocates when a person's needs or circumstances might otherwise be overlooked. Those experiences helped shape both her decision to become an attorney and the kind of attorney she strives to be.
Before practicing law, Jessica built a career in nonprofit work, disaster relief, and operations, living and working across the country, from rural Wisconsin and the Twin Cities to California and New England. Along the way, she learned to connect with people from all walks of life, think on her feet, and navigate complex situations with confidence.
As an attorney, Jessica combines her people-centered approach and diverse professional and life experiences with the skills developed through clerking in criminal defense and civil litigation. A skilled researcher and writer, she has a knack for breaking down complex cases, spotting issues others may overlook, and crafting focused legal arguments. She brings meticulous attention to detail and a pragmatic approach to problem-solving.
That combination is especially valuable in criminal defense and family law, where the stakes extend well beyond the courtroom. Jessica believes the best advocacy requires understanding both the law and the person it affects. Whether a client is facing criminal charges or navigating a difficult family transition, she brings thoughtful preparation, sound judgment, and a willingness to fight for an outcome that protects what matters most to the client.
Jessica earned her Juris Doctor from Roger Williams University School of Law in Rhode Island and her undergraduate degree from the University of St. Thomas in Minnesota. After years of living and working outside the Midwest, she returned to build her practice closer to home.
