To see just how successful our approach is, here are some representative results:
State v. S.N.
September, 2019
Charges: Order for Protection Violation - Misdemeanor
Resolution:
Stay of Adjudication. Avoiding this domestic-related conviction was imperative for this individual to maintain his ability to work in the healthcare field. Despite not having much of a legal defense, Mr. Adkins was able to find a way to this tremendous result. Having terrific relationships with the prosecuting attorney and judge paid off when he was able to convince them that this rare outcome was both appropriate and necessary. The client is now in a position to avoid a conviction and maintain his career.

State v. C.S.
July, 2019
Charges: Indecent Exposure - Misdemeanor
Resolution:
Plea to an amended count of Disorderly Conduct. For a case involving public masturbation in a parked vehicle, avoiding an indecent exposure conviction - as well as any time in custody - was a critical result for the client. He is very pleased at this terrific result and knowing that a sex-crime type offense will not be on his record.
State v. S.E.
June, 2019
Charges: Misdemeanor School Stop-Arm Violation
Resolution:
Stay of adjudication. The state initially demanded a plea to the count as charged with a significant fine. After some negotiating, the state reduced its offer to a petty misdemeanor, which is a non-crime and not a bad outcome. Undeterred, the North Star team knew how to leverage a potential contested hearing into an outcome in which the client will earn a dismissal after the one-year probationary period on the stay of adjudication. And the fine remained the same as the original offer. Point being, the North Star team correctly navigated this case to get the client the best possible outcome to avoid creating a criminal record over a traffic matter.

Still, with some proactive steps and savvy negotiating, the North Star team obtaining this outcome - even over the victim's objection to it. The client is thrilled to walk away from both incidents without a criminal record.

State v. S.S.
October, 2018
Charges: 5th Degree Assault - Misdemeanor
Resolution:
DISMISSED. Client was facing charges stemming from a fight in which he was wrongfully identified as the perpetrator. Instead, he was the peacemaker in a fight involving multiple individuals. Thankfully, Mr. Gempeler and the team at North Star diligently reviewed the witness statements and discovered that the State had charged the wrong individual based on the description of the perpetrators. With a photo of the client from the night in question, Mr. Gempeler easily persuaded the State to dismiss the case without even needing to file a formal motion.
State v. J.L.
October, 2018
Charges: Indecent Exposure - Misdemeanor
Resolution:
Continuance for dismissal. For minimal costs and the only condition being to remain crime free, the client will keep a perfect record. For a young man, the prospect of facing this type of record with a conviction would be devastating to his future career. Yet, without any legal defenses, the North Star team still knew how to negotiate this critical outcome for our needful client.
State v. C.R.
July, 2018
Charges: Social Host Citation - Misdemeanor - St. Paul City Ordinance Violation
Resolution:
Dismissed by the prosecutor. Even though we received an incredible first offer for our client to complete a diversion program and the case would be dismissed. Ever diligent, Mr. Gempeler carefully reviewed the ordinance in play and the summary of the incident in the citation. In doing so, it was discovered that the State lacked facts to satisfy the definition of a key element to the charge. After raising this issue with the prosecutor, she agreed and dismissed the case. While this citation may not seem like much, to a client without a criminal record and was seeking employment in a highly competitive marketplace, it was critical to earn this outcome.
